GOP launches “Lyin Comey” website ahead of his book tour: Won’t let disgraced former FBI director “rehabilitate his image”

In 2016 then-FBI Director James Comey ticked off Democrats and Republicans over the way he botched the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s obvious mishandling of classified emails.

Republicans who saw one piece of evidence after another of her criminal behavior spilled out in the media were flabbergasted when he went before the cameras in July of that year to essentially lay out all the evidence against her then claim, incredibly, that “no reasonable prosecutor” would charge her with any wrongdoing because she ‘never intended’ to break the law.

Comey then angered Democrats when, just days before the November 8 election, he announced the FBI was reopening the case to examine new evidence, only to close it just a few days later.

Eventually, Comey was fired by President Donald J. Trump on the recommendation of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein for the pitiful way he handled the Clinton investigation, among other things.

Now, Comey’s back in the public eye with a “revealing” new memoir in which he has teased will spill detail after detail about what a dangerous, disgusting creep Trump is and, presumably, how he was wronged and why the president is worthy of impeachment.

Realistically, Comey couldn’t have had too many interactions with the president — and he hasn’t said that he did — because Trump was inaugurated on Jan. 20 and he fired Comey in May.

Nevertheless, the Republican Party is taking preemptive measures to temper whatever it is that Comey will claim in his tightly-held tome with a new website — www.LyinComey.com — reminiscent of Trump’s labeling of his main primary opponent in 2016, “Lyin’” Ted Cruz, a GOP senator from Texas.

As reported by Fox News:

The Republican National Committee launched an aggressive campaign to paint fired FBI Director James Comey as a liar, just days before the airing of his first interview since he was cut loose and shortly before the release next week of his tell-all memoir.

The RNC borrowed a term, coined by then-candidate Donald Trump during the 2016 presidential primaries for “Lyin’ Ted Cruz,” and pegged it to the embattled former chief of the FBI.

The objective of the website is to fact-check Comey’s claims in his book, but also serve as a running real-time fact-checker as Comey makes the media rounds, the first of which is an ABC News interview with former White House aide to former President Bill Clinton, George Stephanopoulos (no bias there, right?).

The site will document Comey “misstatements” and “contradictions,” of which there promises to be many.

“James Comey’s publicity tour is a self-serving attempt to make money and rehabilitate his own image,” Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said. “Comey is a liar and a leaker, and his misconduct led both Republicans and Democrats to call for his firing. If Comey wants the spotlight back on him, we’ll make sure the American people understand why he has no one but himself to blame for his complete lack of credibility.” (Related: James Comey confirms that NYT story on Russian collusion conspiracy was totally #FAKENEWS.)

She also told the news network that the RNC has put in place a ‘rapid response team’ that will respond to claims made in Comey’s book, “A Higher Loyalty,” and has assembled a research team to fact-check the tome. A “war room” will monitor his media appearances.

Already the RNC has some damning information and quotes on the site.

One quote is from Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., who declared in January 2017, “The FBI has no credibility” (remember, Comey was still its director).

“Maybe he’s not in the right job,” House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is quoted as saying in November 2016.

“I do not have confidence in [Comey] any longer,” the site quotes Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., from November 2016.

“…[B]adly overstepped his bounds,” the site quotes Hillary Clinton as saying in September 2017. Clinton has since hammered Comey on several occasions during public appearances, blaming him, in part, for her loss.

We will also be monitoring Comey at our new network site JamesComey.news.
